Ten top php scripts for your website

PHP makes it easy to add powerful features to your website with minimal effort through the use of scripts. If you have CakePHP installed, you can use the Paypal Payments Component to set up Paypal to receive payments and donations. CakePHP also lets you display all the latest from your Twitter feed with a script that you can copy and paste from their sites Articles section. Another great feature of CakePHP is that it can allow you to harness the power of jQuery to allow users to upload and crop images. Use this to allow users to upload avatars or post an image for their friends. This script can be found in the “Snippets” section of their site. Another great script provided by CakePHP is the AutoLogin component. Now, a user to your site will have the choice of whether or not they have to log in with each visit. Tired of getting spam in the comments section of your site? Commentia is yet another CakePHP script that helps filter out spam. Other PHP frameworks can provide most of these features.
Say you want to see exactly what pages on the site your visitors are viewing most? Take a look at IDLogger, a click-tracking script. The coolest feature of this script is that all the data is returned in real time – you can even track individual users as they move from page to page. Usercart2 makes setting up an online shop a walk in the park. phpBB will give your visitors a bulletin board with which to interact on your site. Set up a blog – or even give users their own blogs – quickly and easily with PostNuke. Finally, keep your news page up-to-date with CuteNews, an easy and powerful way to add and edit news updates.

What’s So Great About PHP Hosting?

If you are looking to find a web host for your website, then you are probably being faced with many different choices. Unfortunately, most of these choices aren’t always so clear that we can see when they’re unreasonable or unnecessary. Free web hosting nowadays has many different features that might attract you.

But what is the difference between a typical Web Host and PHP hosting? There are many things that will separate the PHP host from the more typical hosts. First, by programming in PHP, your website will be able to take advantage of all sorts of great things. If you want to have your website allow users to log on under their own user names, then you can use PHP scripting to do this. This will ensure that you will be able to offer each of your visitors a unique and personalized experience when they visit your website!

Keep your eye out when looking for cheap PHP hosts, though. Sometimes, you might find that a service will offer you cheap hosting, but charge more to allow you to use MySQL. MySQL is a database that PHP scripting can connect to and store or retrieve information from.

But you may still be asking yourself, “Well, what’s so much different between a PHP and a typical Web Host?” Well, all of this interactivity that you will be able to get through your PHP hosting provider simply isn’t available with the typical Web Hosts. So if you want to allow people to do more than just look at your website and the things you have on it, then you should definitely go for some of the cheap PHP hosts that are available on line!

If you have spent much time browsing the web then the chances are good that you?ve already used PHP without even knowing it.We offer a unique variety of Internet marketing opportunities that can help your business establish a strong online presence. Overview Of The PHP Programming Language

PHP is a web scripting language that performs server side operations to produce dynamic content.

The PHP code can be embedded into conventional HTML performing many tasks that were formerly mostly relayed to a separate Common Gateway Interface (CGI) script. Created by Rasmus Lerdorf originally in the form of Perl-based CGI binary files, PHP has become one of the most widely-used scripting languages for the web.

The script, written in C, reads very much like Perl and can be described as a Perl-like script that can be embedded into HTML to perform server operations with databases, log files, user agents and the like. The developer is The PHP Group and the latest version is PHP 5.2.10 on 06-18-2009. There are also unstable releases: 5.3.0RC4 and 6.0.0-dev.

PHP is freeware under the PHP license rather than the GNU General Public License. The scripting language works across operating systems and on both 32 bit and 64 bit platforms, although the 32 bit is the only official one for Windows.

The name “PHP” comes from the original “Personal Home Page Tools” coined by Lerdorf. The language, like Perl, can also be used to create command-line scripts and client-side interface scripts.

For those who already know HTML, and Perl, PHP is very easy to learn. In some ways PHP is similar to embedding Javascript into an HTML page, except that PHP runs on the server rather than in the client browser. PHP shares Perl’s powerful parsing ability and is great for handling user input. The scripting language is normally compiled at runtime, but can be compiled into binary form before hand for maximum speed. Developers should be careful in not using too many resources with each script since it is easy to overload the server. PHP has some significant security issues and lacks taint checking like Perl for external input.

PHP scripts are placed in HTML set off by delimiters. The language has a wide range of functions and PHP 3 upward have object-oriented capability.

PHP has become one of the most popular active server pages and is supported by an active developer community.

How to Implement Captcha With Php and Gd

How to implement CAPTCHA with PHP and GD

So, you have a public submission form on your website (contact page, forum submission,blogs comment form) and need to prevent spam by auto-submitters. Common way to do this is to implement CAPTCHA – an image with randomly generated string

(quote from Wikipedia, free online enciclopedia: “A CAPTCHA is a type of challenge-response test used in computing to determine whether the user is human. “CAPTCHA” is an acronym for “Completely Automated Public Turing test to tell Computers and Humans Apart”, trademarked by Carnegie Mellon University.”)

Simple and quick PHP solution for implemet CAPTCHA:

1) Make a PHP script which will generate a CAPTCHA image:

[?php

session_start();

header("Expires: Mon, 26 Jul 1997 05:00:00 GMT");

header("Last-Modified: " . gmdate("D, d M Y H:i:s") . " GMT");

header("Cache-Control: no-store, no-cache, must-revalidate");

header("Cache-Control: post-check=0, pre-check=0", false);

header("Pragma: no-cache");

function _generateRandom($length=6){

$_rand_src = array(

array(48,57) //digits

, array(97,122) //lowercase chars

// , array(65,90) //uppercase chars

);

srand ((double) microtime() * 1000000);

$random_string = "";

for($i=0;$i

$i1=rand(0,sizeof($_rand_src)-1);

$random_string .= chr(rand($_rand_src[$i1][0],$_rand_src[$i1][1]));

}

return $random_string;

}

$im = @imagecreatefromjpeg(“captcha.jpg”);

$rand = _generateRandom(3);

$_SESSION['captcha'] = $rand;

ImageString($im, 5, 2, 2, $rand[0].” “.$rand[1].” “.$rand[2].” “, ImageColorAllocate ($im, 0, 0, 0));

$rand = _generateRandom(3);

ImageString($im, 5, 2, 2, ” “.$rand[0].” “.$rand[1].” “.$rand[2], ImageColorAllocate ($im, 255, 0, 0));

Header (‘Content-type: image/jpeg’);

imagejpeg($im,NULL,100);

ImageDestroy($im);

?]

2) Add the following line at the top of the page where you need to implement the CAPTCHA (there should not be any output before this line, except you use php functions ob_start() and ob_end_flush() to turn on output buffering):

3) Add the following line for check is CAPTCHA entered by visitor valid, before the line where you will proceed submitted message:

[?php if($_SESSION["captcha"]==$_POST["captcha"])

{

//CAPTHCA is valid; proceed the message: save to database, send by e-mail …

echo ‘CAPTHCA is valid; proceed the message’;

}

else

{

echo ‘CAPTHCA is not valid; ignore submission’;

}?]

4) Finaly add the CAPTCHA to the form:

[img src="captcha.php" alt="captcha image"][input type="text" name="captcha" size="3" maxlength="3"]

P.S.

notice:

- the tags “[?" and "?]” in code samples above should be replaced to the “”, you may download original article and code sample here: free download php captcha demo

- requirements: a webserver (windows or linux no matter) with PHP engine, with GD (graphic library) support, you may check your php settings with phpinfo() function

- you need some blank jpg image for use it as background for CAPTCHA string
